Volunteer, Donate & Partner With Us
Health Promotion Project's impact is made possible by the generosity and commitment of individual volunteers, donors, corporate sponsors, and community partner organizations. Whether you can offer your time, your expertise, or your financial support, there are meaningful ways to contribute to health equity in Hennepin County.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are the backbone of our community health mission. We offer structured volunteer roles with training, ongoing support, and the opportunity to make a direct, measurable impact on the health of your neighbors.
Community Health Ambassador
Lead neighborhood walking groups, facilitate cooking demonstrations, assist with community screening events, and serve as a peer health educator in your community. Ambassadors receive 40 hours of initial training covering health literacy fundamentals, motivational interviewing techniques, cultural humility, and basic biometric screening procedures. Ongoing monthly continuing education is provided. Bilingual volunteers are especially needed in Somali, Hmong, Spanish, Karen, Oromo, and Amharic.
Patient Navigation Support
Assist our patient navigators with appointment scheduling, insurance enrollment support, transportation coordination, and follow-up phone calls for participants with abnormal screening results. This role is ideal for individuals with healthcare, social work, or public health backgrounds. Training is provided on MNsure enrollment, Medical Assistance eligibility, and Metro Mobility coordination. Volunteers work alongside certified community health workers in our Hennepin Avenue office or remotely via phone.
Screening Event Volunteer
Help staff our monthly free community health screening events across Hennepin County. Roles include participant registration, check-in and flow management, height and weight measurement (training provided), data entry, and participant education material distribution. Screening events are typically held on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at community centers, schools, and faith-based organizations. No healthcare background required. All volunteers receive a 2-hour pre-event orientation.

Workplace Wellness Partnerships
We deliver customized on-site wellness programming for employers, including tobacco cessation groups (minimum 10 employees), biometric screening events, nutrition education workshops, and stress management training. Workplace programs are available on a fee-for-service basis with sliding-scale options for small businesses and non-profit organizations. Our workplace programming meets OSHA wellness program guidelines and can support employers seeking Healthy Workplace recognition through the American Heart Association.
